Information on John Downer and Margaret Downer

Does anyone have information on John and/or Margaret Downer. They supposedly are from Ballina Ireland and lived in the Bahamas around 1740-50. Later moved into Florida and then Georgia. Does anyone have any idea how I could find a record of people living there at that time? Thanks. Carika
