Gibson Eleuthera Info
Posted by: Dawn Jones (ID *****8868) Date: March 26, 2008 at 04:57:41

I wrote a long time ago requesting information on my family. I have more info as I was able to pull the manifest from the ship - THE EQUATOR- showing that my great grand father, Richard Alfred Gibson entered the US in 1907 and he wrote on that manifest that his mothers name was Analouise Gibson. I know that this would be more helpful. Richard Alfred Gibson was born in Eleuthera in 1888 or so from is age upon entering the US. He married my great grand mother, Margaret Grant who lived in Key West with her family who had come over from one of the Islands. Margaret changed her name to Maggie. She was the eldest of several siblings, Leonora, Johathan, Whillimine, Alonza, and Gleneva. These were the children of Malachia Grant and Adora Catherine Grant.
From the union of Richard Alfred Gibson and Maggie Grant Gibson there were 4 girls, Pauline Gibson Dunn, Melves Gibson Mikell, Mattie Gibson Jones and the only one alive of this group, Willie Evelyn Gibson Griglen.
I am seeking info on Richard Alfred's birth and family in Eleuthera. I have a copy of the Will of James Robert Gibson who had a son Richard Alfred Gibson. It may be that my great grand father, Richard Alfred was the son of Richard Alfred. Got any answers? Please let me know. My email is dawnjones23@yahoo.com
