Hello Davis, Thanks for the additional information. I can tell you a lot about Charles Vance Abernathy's family, but not a lot about him. His father was Thomas Abernathy, b. about Jan. 1860 in Lincoln or Catawba County, NC, and his mother was Ella Munday, b. April 1855 in Lincoln County. I am related to both Thomas and Ella. Ella is the granddaughter of Jeremiah Munday and Chloe Shelton. Jeremiah was a Revolutionary War soldier and later a Methodist minister. Chloe is the daughter of Spencer Shelton and his first cousin Clary Shelton. Chloe's brother Temple is my fourth great-grandfather, and her brother Spencer is my third great-grandfather. Temple married Lucy Abernathy (1783-1873), the daughter of Robert Abernathy and Abigail Harwell. Lucy is the second cousin twice removed of your ancestor Thomas Abernathy. So my connection to the Abernathys is pretty remote, but since I was born in North Carolina, I enjoy researching my ancestors from around there. The Abernathys, Sheltons and Harwells came to Lincoln County, NC from Virginia. The reason your family caught my eye is that there are a lot of Lowes from the same area of NC. I would love to be able to figure out whether Gideon Lowe -- the ancestor of your grandmother Gertrude Lowe -- is related to the North Carolina Lowes. It would be quite a story if Charles Vance Abernathy had gone to Florida, married a girl from the Bahamas -- and they turned out to be related! All this has very little to do with Bahamas genealogy, so I won't clutter the message board any further, but feel free to email me privately if you have/want any more info.
