I have a copy of a letter from my gg-grandfather who lived in Nassau to my g-uncle, dated 28 Sept. 1883 describing a hurricane that stuck that year: "Parson Higgs and wife and three others drowned, several lives reported lost on the Out Islands. The fruit all destroyed. The inhabatants on the Out Islands in a state of starvation, we are in fact in a bad plight."

If you should happen upon any information on the Butler or Malcolm families in the Bahamas, I would appreciate it.
