Douglas(s) Loyalists - need hints!
I am looking for two brothers, John and William Douglas/Douglass.The story goes that John was a colonel in the British army during the Revolution, and after the war he moved to Crooked Island, Bahamas, where he owned a salt work and "accumulated a fortune".No other info is given.
The other brother, William, was allegedly a captain in the British army, and was sent to Halifax after the war. There he met and married the widow of a Captain McDonald from London. They had 4 children in Halifax, and sometime around 1820 or later, he was ordered to Nassau. He and his wife are said to be buried there.
(Interestingly enough, these two had another brother who fought for the Americans and was killed at Savannah).
Can anyone give me some hints on how to go about trying to verify these stories?I would love to find out who the parents of these brothers are!
Thanks-
