Peter Bagley (I)-who was imported by Richard Bennett in 1635 to Isle of Wight, Va. He died before 9 Dec. 1665. This evident because of the record which Weltkin Bagly makes giving 3 of her children, Elizabeth, Peter & Margery several items on 9th Dec. 1665. This record states that Peter Bagly was her late husband. SOUCRE: (Isle of Wight County, Va. Records of Wills & Deeds, etc. Vol. I, 1662-1715, p.p. 63;64).
On 7th Jan. 1678 Wm. Sherwood & Tho. Moore give counter security due to the orphans of Peter Baglye. This record mentions Jno. Lidford had married the relict of Baglye (which is Peter Bagley, the relict meaning Wilkin Bagley). Wm. Sherwood gave power & authority (NOT POWER OF ATTORNEY) to the said Peter Baglye (Peter Bagley, Jr.) & Hugh his brother who were orphans of Peter Bagley to enter upon & possess themselves of the house & land, to be made over & conveyed to them forever. The land consisted of 250 acres in Surry county, Va. & this land had formerly been in Lidford's possession.

Peter Bagly, Sr. died about 1684. I tend to believe this was Peter Bagley, Jr. who had now became Peter Bagley, Sr. since his father had died & he was the elder Peter Bagley. See Library of Va. (Part of index to Surry County Wills & Adm. 1652-1850), p. 20 a.
With the above Peter Bagley, Sr. in mind I tend to think the Peter Bagley who died in 1735 was the son of the Peter Bagley, Sr. who died in 1684.
Hugh Bagley was adm. of Peter's estate in 1684. SOUCRE:(Order Book 1671-1691), Book IV). This most likely was Hugh's brother mentioned in the earlier record of 1678.
Hugh Bagley died before 20th May, 1693 in Surry County, Va.
as his estate was inventoried at that time. Soucre: Surry County, Va. Deeds & Wills, no. 4, 1687-1694).
So who was the father of John Bagley? More research needs doing at this stage.
The other Peter Bagley's will was in 1735.(Surry Co. Wills & Adm. 1652-1850), Surry Co. Deeds & Wills, no. 8, 1730-38, p. 576). His will mentions only son George Bagley & daughter Sarah Tucker & COUSIN: JOHN BAGLEY.
So these records show at least 2 other men named Peter after Peter Bagley (I).
If anyone has any other information they'd like to share with me that proves differently, I wish they would contact me.
