I have done some research into the Baggs name because a few of the Beggs family members that moved north from VA about 1800 used the Baggs name. Your James may have been one. Alexander Beggs had a sons Thomas and James. I am related to Thomas. James married Janet Anderson Feb 8, 1787 in Rockbridge County, VA. The spouses names is not the same, but there could have been another marriage. I have James and Janet's two children as Fanny and Jane. Hope this helps.
