I rechecked the original 1850 Fayette County, Ga., census on microfilm yesterday at the local library. The ages I posted for Howell Mosely (69) and Mary Ann (23) are very distinct. The only thing I found unclear was the handwriting for Louella/Souella. It actually appears to be Lowulla or Lowella. I don't think Howell Mosely should be ruled out as the father of children ages 6 and 3 because of his age.

I've only seen an abstract of Howell Mosely's will. Between the taking of the census in November 1850 and the writing of Howell's will in January 1857, it's possibly that the two young girls shown on the census (if they were his daughters) could have died.
