Thanks for the info on the land you are researching. It maybe that Sanford farmed for others. He had fairly extensive land holdings of his own for the time. I know that he was deeded two tracts for his service in the War of 1812 and may have inherited some from his family. I believe that his parents were James and Milender (Millie, Mildred). James descends from Capt Thomas Carter of Lancaster County. I have seen Loyal, Mildred, and Sanford on tax rolls together and believe that Loyal is a brother to Sanford. If you find James Carter on the same land as Sanford later occupied, I amy have the proof I need to connect them. James died when Sanford was around 8 yrs old and Milender was head of household.
