My husband and I currently reside in the Sidney O. Russell house in Leslie, MI. It had been called the "Baggerly House" for years since there seem to have been hard feelings between S.O. Russell's second wife (Rumina Haynes Russell) and the daughter Mary Russell Baggerly. Mary was a school teacher. She went to Kansas and married a Baggerly who homesteaded there. She returned to Michigan a widow with a 6 year old son- James Russell Baggerly- who later married Effie Steele. Effe and James lived here with their two children James Jr. and Betty. I recently spoke to both. The family bible which had been in the possession of James has disappeared. It was presented to Sidney Russell at the time of his marriage to Mary Fox in Seneca Falls, New York, presented to them by her parents in the 1836. I have a letter from Effie dated 1978, telling how her father J. L. Steele came to see the children and was HERE when he died in 1933.
