I have been tracking a family that I think was the family of my great-grandfather's brother. Here is what I have: My great-grandfather's brother was Herbert Venable Ivins, born 4 July 1864 in Illinois (probably Bloomington), son of John Ivins and Alice Clark Tutt Ivins. John was born in New Jersey and Alice was born in Kentucky. Herbert died 14 October 1897 in Chicago. I believe he was married to a woman named Elizabeth (called Lizzie in one record) who was born about 1864-1867 in England and immigrated to the US about 1870. This is based on (i) a 1900 census entry which listed Lizzie as hear of the household and George and Henry Ivins as brothers-in-law and Mamie Ivins as sister-in-law in the household and (ii) the name of one of the daughters - Herberta and her middle initial being "V" which is the same initial Herbert's middle name started with. 1900 census, 12th ward, Chicago, IL: Lizzie Ivins, head, born Feb 1866 England, parents born England Maude Ivins, daughter, born Dec 1888 Illinois, father born Illinois, mother born England Myrtle Ivins, daughter, born July 1893 Illinois, father born Illinois, mother born England Herberta Ivins, daughter, born April 1898 Illinois, father born Illinois, mother born England George Ivins, brother-in-law, born Sept 1858 Illinois, father born Illinois mother born Kentucky, fruit dealer Henry Ivins, brother-in-law, born May 1876 Illinois, father born Illinois mother born Kentucky, teamster Mamie Ivins, sister-in-law, born May 1879 Illinois, father born Illinois mother born Kentucky, operator telephone 1910 Census, Buffalo, Erie County, NY Elizabeth Ivins, age 46, widow, b. England, immigrated 1870 Myrtle Ivins, age 16, b. IL Herberta V. Ivins, age 12, b. IL 1920 census, Ithaca, Ward 4, Tompkins County, NY Elizabeth Ivins, age 56, widow, b. England, immigrate 1870 Herberta I. Ivins, age 21, b. IL (Ancestry.com indexed Herberta's middle initial as "I." May actually be "V."). 1930 census, Tonawanda, Erie County, NY George J. Baer, age 39, b. NY, carpenter Myrtle Baer, age 36, b. IL Harvey Baer, age 13, b. NY Dorothy Baer, age 9, b. NY Carlton Baer, age 7, b. NY James Baer, age 6/12, b. NY Elizabeth Ivins, age 66, b. England, mother-in-law Herberta Ivins, age 31, b. IL sister-in-law, bookkeeper at chain store (note: Ivins is indexed as Ivans by Ancestry.com in 1930 census). George Joseph Baer, born in Buffalo, NY, April 3, 1892 registered for the World War I draft from Erie County, NY. The record indicated he was married and had one child. Daughter Dorothy may be the Dorothy B. Dulmage who was age 84 and died 9 Feb 2005. Her obituary was in the Warwick Times (Rhode Island) on 16 Feb 2005 and also listed was Myrtle Ivins Baer. Warwick City Directory indicates she lived at 355 Hardig Road, Warwick. Social Security Death Index shows a birth date of 10 Aug 1920 and that her Social Security Number was issued in NY before 1951. Carlton Baer may be the Carlton H. Baer who was listed in Social Security Death Index as born 3 June 1922 and died 19 Aug 1998, last address Norcross, Gwinnett, GA. Soc Sec # issued in NY before 1951. While my primary interest is Ivins, I thought I would post this in the event this could help anyone. Also, if anyone is researching these people I would be interested in comparing notes. Thanks Paul Frost Notify Administrator about this message?
