BAER of Unterschwarzach, Baden
Posted by: Chris Baer Date: December 30, 1998 at 05:01:26

Looking for leads on Jacob BAER, who was born in 1790 in Unterschwarzach, Baden, Germany. He married in 1812, Catherine DUFFRIN, who was born in 1790 in Unterschwarzach, Baden, and died 4 Apr 1853 in Renchen, Germany. Jacob died in 1824, in Germany. All of this information was passed on to me by a deceased cousin. I have not yet been able to corroborate it.

They had at least one child, my ancestor:
Valentine BAER, who was born 29 Sep 1819 in Unterschwarzach, Baden. He married on 28 Dec 1846, in Pittsburgh, PA, Eva Mary Catherine "Maria" SEITZ, who was born 20 Oct 1817 in Hohenstaufen, Wuerttemberg, and died 24 Dec 1883, probably in Springfield, Mahoning Co., OH or New Castle, Lawrence Co., PA. Valentine died about 1900 in New Castle, PA. The back of a photograph of Valentine notes in a mixture of English and German that Valentine was a soldier in the "Artillerie of Baden" from 1 Apr 1840 until 1 Apr 1846, and that he left Germany 19 Apr 1846 and landed in New York 1 Jun 1846. (I checked passenger lists of ships arriving in New York on that day, but could not find his name.) Valentine and Maria were living in Pittsburgh in 1848, but by 1850 had moved to Springfield twp., Mahoning Co., OH.

Any connections?

Thanks,
Chris Baer
