Badilla and Badia
I think the last name Badilla is a castilianization of the Catalan last name Badia, which menas 'bay' in Catalan. many catalan last names were Castilianized during the 'Nueva Planta' after 1714 when Phillip of Bourbon assumed the Spanish throne and decreed that Castilian be the only official language in Spain. Before 1714, the kingdom of Aragon remained functionally independent from Madrid's rule and Catalan was the official language in the K.of Aragon. Many Catalan last names were 'corrected' by Spanish registoires. Thus Rossinyol became 'Rusiñol',Llorenç became 'Lorens' or even 'Lorenzo', Pujol became 'Puyol' or 'Pullol'. Badilla hasn't a Castilian. You are all probably of Aragonese, Catalan, Valencian or Balear origin. These areas made up the former K. of Aragon. Catalan is still spoken in all these areas and is co-official with Spanish.
