I don't know about Rebecca Badgley, but I wonder if I can ask you another Badgley question. (I am posting this to the board because the email I sent to you was returned.) We were corresponding last year about the Starrs and Badgleys - I am a descendant of Daniel Starr, Jr. In the History of Grapevine, Texas it says that Daniel Starr, Jr. was the fourth of six children born in Monroe County, Illinois to Daniel Starr, Sr. and Rachel Starr, but it does not give Rachel's maiden name. Several people have posted on the Internet that Rachel was a daughter of David Badgley. My question is, how do we know that Daniel Starr's wife Rachel was a Badgley? I know that the Rev. David Badgley had a daughter Rachel who married a Starr, because I have seen a transcription of the Badgley family Bible. But this Bible does not say that Rachel's husband was Daniel Starr. Could it have been another Starr?

When I told my dad about David Badgley's migration to Monroe County and his Baptist ministry, he was skeptical that this David Badgley's daughter was the mother of our Daniel Starr, Jr. Our Daniel Starr, Jr. was a Methodist circuit-riding minister, and it sounds like the Badgley family were staunch Baptists. Of course, it is possible that Daniel Starr, Jr. was baptized into the Baptist church and later converted to Methodism, but another possibility is that his mother was not a Badgley.

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Josh Tate
