My grand mother was Mary Edwina Backus (m. Harpending) b. 1848 in Groton, NY.
Her father was Clinton Backus, b. 1812 in Freetown, NY, the second son of Rufus Backus.
Her mother was Joanna Richardson.
I have just found a nice pair of photographs of Clinton and Joanna (called "Anna"). These may be common in family records but if not I would be happy to mail copies if anyone here is from that upstate New York branch.
