Hello Daniel,

Do you know anything about John Backus, died Before Dec 2, 1819, in Athens, Greene, NY? He was married on Dec 11, 1811,to Polly Cooke (aka Mary Cooke) in the Trinity Episcopal Church of Athens.
They had 3 daughters:
Eliza Backus, b. Mar 2, 1812
Salinda Backus, b. Oct 3, 1813
Rebeka Ann bap. Sep 9, 1816

Evidently this John Backus had some connection to a Whiting Backus. (There are several earlier Whiting Backus' in CT. I do not know where John Backus was born or when. My guess would be that he was born about 1790. His widow married Ezekiel Wells abt 1819 of Catskill, Greene, NY. Do you know anything about this family?
