I have additional information on my Backus Family. These are the results of my recent research.
Benjamin W. Backus - died in 1886, lived (prob farmed) near Ravenna Portage Co OH with young family in late 1830s -1843. Early farmer in Newport Tnsp of Lake Co IL (Federal land sales 1843-5) until around 1880 when health deteriorated.
Spouse - Mary Griswold Backus b. Aug.1811 d.Feb.1893
Children:
1. Ellen Z. Backus b. 1839 Portage Co OH d. 1931 husband Ezra Walker
A. farmed near Rutland, Montgomery Co, KS 1869 - 1898
B. moved to Boulder CO and children settled later into northeastern CO
C. 5 children with 4 descendant lines continue today in CO and elsewhere (MT, WA, PA) and are in contact
2. Franklin b.1840? Portage Co OH, farmed in Lake Co IL both with his father and on his own.
A. Outlived two wives and one child; left no descendants
B. Veteran of Civil War, sergeant 100th IL Inf.
C. 1882 sold farm sought health remedy in CO, d. 1883 Boulder CO
3. Charles - b. 1843, Portage Co OH, law student in 1880 died in 1890. Spouse - Elvira L. Whitmore Backus

A Mabel b.1878, married Herman Lawson, plumber in San Francisco

1. Genevieve Elvira Lawson Brace, 13, b.1906 CO
died in 1992 in San Mateo CA
2. Katherine Mabel Lawson Gregg, 9, b.1910 CA
died in 1994 in San Mateo CA
B. Guy b.1873 likely died in childhood
4. Isabel b. est 1847 Lake Co IL, married Neil Mackenzie, moved to Boulder, CO. No descendants.
5. Fredrick (b. 1850 Lake Co IL) married Harriet E., farmed in Monroe Co WI, mined in CO. No descendants.
6. Eva (b. est 1853 Lake Co IL) - husband surname Kennedy

B. Lillie (unknown info)
7. Lillian b. 1854, (died at 9 yrs) Lake Co IL
"I would like to know if there are any living descendants of Benjamin through the children of 1. Charles Backus - Mabel Backus Lawson - Genevieve Lawson Brace or Katherine Lawson Gregg of San Mateo CA, or of 2. Eva Backus Kennedy - William Kennedy of IL."
