Sylvia,
J.W.L. Backhouse inherited the estate from his father William Avery Backhouse & wife Mary Lewis, and built Pleasant Point in 1842. He married Ann Matilda Lawson, daughter of Richard Bachelor Kelsick Lawson & wife Elizabeth Barnes Kemp and was born 9/13/1822. He owned as many as 87 slaves. JWL backhouse died 12/13/1870 & Ann died 3/15/1883. They are buried at Pleasant Point
