I'm interested in the William Penn secretary story since it was also claimed of Johann Georg Bachman or his father, but has been debunked (in an article by the late Mary K. Meyer in the Baughman Quarterly of the late 1980's). I think William Penn made his last trip to America in 1699 and died in England in 1718. Johann Georg didn't come to America until 1717, and your Jacob didn't come until 1753.

As far as I know the "secretary to William Penn" claim first emerged in the biography of John Bachman, the well-known minister and naturist who was a close friend and collaborater of Audubon, regarding John's immigrant ancestor. Does any one have additional details?
