Jean-Francois and Pierre Vertefeuille - English?

In doing our search of the Bachand/Vertefeuille families, we were given an interesting yet frustrating article which suggests that Jean-Francois (Anglais) Vertefeuille, born abt 1700, died bef 1800, married to Marguerite Dupuis on 27 Jun 1722 in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, was actually an English prisoner of war brought to Quebec, or already there, where he was adopted out to a French family. His father, Pierre (Anglais) Vertefeuille was married to Madeleine Provost. Can anyone explain this story? Jean-Francois may have been about 13 years of age when this happened.
