Hello. I am also looking for some information on my side of the Bach family. Last week I was at my grandparents house and discovered my line as follows: Karen (myself) Mary Ann Axt (mother) Kenneth Donald Axt (grandfather) Mary (May) Herrel Bach (great-grandmother) Philip H. Bach (great-great-grandfather) Ernest Bach (great-great-great-grandfather) b.1835 or 6 Ernest was married to Caroline Kramer (b. 4/13/1834) in Germany. Ernest and Caroline were the parents of Elizabeth (b. 1858) and Philip H. (b.1861). Ernest and his family came to America from Germany in either 1854 or 1864 (there is discrepancy among family records). Ernest died in 1865 and Caroline remarried George Herrel. Philip H. grew up in Manhattan and married Elizabeth Claus in 1884. They had 10 children, so I can trace a very extensive line from Ernest to my generation. Philip became a prominent businessman/farmer in Flushing, NY. He lived on properties in Flushing and Nassau Point, Long Island. In 1904, Philip bought land the on the corner of Main Street and Roosevelt Ave. in downtown Flushing. There he built the Bach Building. He also purchased the Dennison Building adjacent on Roosevelt Ave. Philip died in 1936 and the properties were leased to John Jacob Astor. I do not know when or how the Bach family relinquished ownership of the buildings, but I do know that the Bach Building burned down in February 1951. Our family legend also says that somehow we are related to Johann Sebastian Bach, but I would be content with just getting back farther than Ernest. If any of this information or the names looks remotely familiar, please let me know. I look forward to hearing from someone. Thank you! Sincerely, Karen B Notify Administrator about this message?
