Here is census info & a little unvarified family info on Nicolaus "Nick" BACH of Waumandee, Buffalo Co. WI.I think he must be the son or nephew of the Nick Bach mentioned above, though. If the census is correct, this Nick Bach was born in Bavaria ca. 1842.Both his parents were Bavarian.
1870 WI Census:
Bach, Nicolaus age 28 net worth $1760
Bach, Elisah (1st husband was Schmidts) age 39 net worth $5500; listed as "grocer"-- this is an extraordinary sum for little Waumandee at this date.
son Schmidts, John age 14
1880 WI Census
Bach, Nicholas age 39hotel keeper
Bach, Elisha age 49
daughter Schmidts, Risa age 17
daughter Bach, Emily, age 13
Mattine (sp?) Elizabeth, age 13
Listed just above in the 1880 census are:
Fritchler, Wm. age 39 wheelright
Fritchler, Apolonia (sp? the page is hard to read) age 29 b. Bavaria; both her parents were Bavarian, too
4 daughters. They also had a son, Henry, who lived in Milwaukee later.
My father referred to Nick Bach as "uncle Nick" and I believe that Apolonia (my ggrandmother) was probably Nick's sister. If my dad met this Nick, and I think he did, Nick would have to have been alive as late as 1915 or so.
Any info on this family much appreciated. It sounds like there were several members of this Bach family around Buffalo County at this time...
Thanks.
