I believe that you are on the right track with John Baber(s) & Martha Elkins.

Have you considered the following?

1815 February 5th
JOHN BABER married MARTHA ELKINS.
son of John & Sally (Moorman) BABER born 1794 in Campbell County, Va - died 16th
August, 1864 in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Martha died 9th January 1835.
she a dau of Drury & Williford Elkins.

Married secondly 1836 ALPHA LAIRD dau of Absolum & Susan Laird born Barnwell Dist Sth
Carolina in 1808 - died Bienville Parish, Louisiana.
