That's fine that you think your surname has never been modified. It was just a suggestion. I don't see how I was romantisizing it however!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you come across as someone fairly young -- Which most likely means you have living relatives who may be able to fill you in.

Your father is one of them. He would be your greatest resource to find the background of your name and he is the first stepping stone in your journey. If you can consult him, that is.

If not, there are several online genealogy sites (including this one). However, as I mentioned before, I have never come across anyone with east indian background to have this name (or it linked anywhere). So, you may only find western links to your surname, Baber.
