Vera, I think we have made a connection here. I believe your MARTHA E. BABER, d/o JOHN and NANCY (DANIEL) BABER, is the wife of my JAMES S. HOUSER. Following is the information I have on JAMES S. and MARTHA ELIZABETH (BABER) HOUSER. I have much additional info on the Housers and descendants of ANNA J. Houser, but nothing on the Baber line except as you have provided.

JAMES S. HOUSER (John4, Henry3, John2, Hans Karl1), b. ca. 1827, SC; d. 6 Feb. 1859, McLennan Co., TX; mar. bef 1849, MARTHA ELIZABETH BABER, b. ca. 1827, NC (age 23 in 1850); d/o John Baber and Nancy Daniel. By the time of the 1850 Census, James S. was living in Chickasaw County with his wife, Elizabeth, b. ca. 1827, NC (age 23) and a one-year-old son, John T. In 1860, the children were living with their mother, Martha Houser (age 33, born in SC) in McLennan Co., TX. On 23 June 1857, Martha E. (Baber) Howser, wife of James S. Howser of McLennan County, Texas gave Power of Attorney to Chesley D. Baber of same County to sell Leonard Daniels land in Rutherford, NC. Witnesses: H.B. Granberry, E.M. Peace and Edward Clark, McLennan County, Texas. James S. Houser is interred at First Street Cemetery, Waco, Texas.
Children of James S. and Elizabeth (---) Houser:
i. John Terry Houser, b. ca. 1849, MS (age 1 in 1850); d. 26 Nov 1910, Waco, McLennan Co., TX; interred Oakwood Cemetery; mar. Elmira (---), b. ca. 1854, TX; d. 23 Mar 1942.
ii. W.H. Houser (m), b. ca. 1851, MS (age 9 in 1860); mar. 30 Oct 1881, McLennan Co., TX, Ida E. Brown.
iii. Anna J. Houser, b. 7 Mar 1852, MS
iv. Mattie Della Houser, b. 30 Aug 1856, TX; d. 14 July 1944, Austin, Travis Co., TX; mar. 7 Feb 1884, Taylor Co., TX, Samuel W. Crutcher, d. 16 June 1928, Sweetwater, Nolan Co., TX.
v. J.S. (James S. Jr.?) Houser (m), b. ca. 1856, TX (age 4 in 1860)
vi. M.J. ("Mollie") Houser (f), b. ca. 1858, TX (age 2 in 1860); mar. Captain Tom Hill, d. 10 Aug 1866, Abilene, TX. Captain Hill was a City Marshal of Abilene and was shot in the foot and died while arresting a prisoner.
vii. I.A. Houser (m), b. ca. 1859, TX (age 1 in 1860).

From your info I see that our Baber and Houser lines crossed several times geographically. Both families have histories in Rutherford Co., NC; Chickasaw Co., MS; and McLennan Co., TX. Looking forward to sharing more with you.

Is there a book or complete electronic file on the Baber clan? I use Family Tree Maker and can accept attached files transferred via email.

Looking forward to hearing from you and others ~ John (please send email announcing any responses to this post!)
