Vera:
As you have probably noticed, the Baber Tree I sent you does not apply to my John Baber, dates, wives, etc. I find it so difficult to understand since the area within the state of Missouri is the same. (how many John Babers can there be in that county?) The following is material that was in intro. to the Tree, maybe it will be helpful to you. When reading about the Baber Family lines, it is necessary to keep in mind that we are talking about three families. The first is the family of Robert Baber, born before 1766, Virginia m. Elizabeth Doherty. Second is family of their son, John, m. Delilah Davis. Third Robert Baber, b. 1825 m. Emeranda Kimsey.
Re. Robert Baber b. before 1766, there is no doubt lived in Virginia, but complications arise in that there were several Robert Babers. One we think is ours lived in Buckingham County, Va. He started paying his own tithe (poll tax) in 1788. Also there was a Robert Baber who signed petitions in 1790 & 1791 in Buckingham County, Va. Robert Babers signature on Marriage Bond signed Dec 18, 1798, to marry Eliz. Doherty on Dec 21, 1798 in Lincoln County, Ky.
A Robert Baber owned a 150 acre farm in buckingham Co, Va. which was transferred to him by a William Baber in 1794. Also in 1794, land taxes were first paid on similar size farms owned by Isaac Baber and Josias Baber, & their farms were transferred to them by William Baber.
Seven children listed for Robert Baber, however only 5 are listed: John, Elizabeth, Nancy, George & James.
Hopefully this adds more to your tremendous files.
