Hi Ricky - First, here is everything I know about John Mendall Babbitt (not Meadall):
Born October 1, 1785, in Hanover, NH
Resided in Hartwick, Vt. where eldest children were born. Then settled in Monroe Co. NY in Parma, and Ogden, NY.He went West to purchase lands near the present city of Chicago and returned home to dispose of his farms and was taken sick and died about 1840.He is undoubtedly the John Babbitt who was with wife Orra bought land in Monroe Co. NY in 1825 as shown by record of deed.
Children:
Curtis - died in Civil War
Harvey
Elkins, killed at Battle of Bull Run
Asenath, died in Allegan, Mich
Franklin, served in Civil War.Died Allegan, Mich
Charles Carpenter, December 10 1832, born in Ogden, NH
Another record gives sons John and William which are either middle or first names of Harvey and Franklin in the list given above.
The above was taken directly from the Babbit Geneology, pub. 1912 and handed down to me.This book lists every Babbitt in this country up until the date of publication.
Second, as for your question about the relationship between Jacob Babbitt married to Elizabeth Scott and John Mendall Babbitt. The only connection that I can find is through the original Babbit to settle in this country, Edward Bobet (the name evolved through generations).John Mendall was the son of Nathaniel, who was the son of Seth, who was the son of Edward, who was the son of Edward.Jacob was the son of Jacob, who was the son of Jacob, who was the son of Elkanah, who was the son of Elkanah, who was the son of Edward. This would make them third cousins once removed. With that said, the various Babbitt lines intertwine throughout the generations in a way that is well.... a bit cozier than would be acceptable today. So it's possible that there is another connection that I'm missing, but I don't think so.
I hope this helps and again I would be glad to look up anyone else or follow up on other leads that you find.Happy digging....
Kristen
