Hi Elke. George Babbington was a co-founder of the local whaling station in Tokomaru. He was also a prominant politician in the local area councils and I believe a very staunch union man. My father is 7th generation since George. Check out the latterday saints site for links too. Type in Peti Piria or John Babbington or the name Waiti. Dad's mother's name was Chambers, first name Heni(Jane) so you might find something there too... I dunno. One thing I do know though is "George" is a well-used name in this line of family.
