Charles Babbage was more than just a mathematician. Many credit him with being the inventor of the first "computer". Although his trial runs of various machines were promising, the parts needed were difficult to make in Victorian times, and Babbage died before seeing his projuct completed. In 1991, scientists successfully completed a calculation with a replica of Babbage's Difference Engine #2 which was built using parts that could have been created in Babbage's time.

I am a very distant relative of Charles Babbage. Anybody else out there?
