See if this helps. I have ship's records from May 1904 of Salvatore Azzarello, 28, and wife Catarina Caruso Azzarello, 18 coming from Termini Imerese Italy to the port of New York. They were going on to Chicago to visit brother Calogero Azzarello at 1953 Wentworth Ave. Chicago, Il.
These may or may not be my g-grandparents. My last name (as I know it???) is Arello. My father who has passed has always said our real name was Aiello. I have a picture of Salvatore and Catarina where my father wrote in Aiello. However, in searching for Aiello I was coming up with nothing. A ancestry.com contact has been helping me and she found the above ship's record. So now I am really confused. Is is Aiello or Azzarello. It would seem it's Azzarello because I know my g-gm maiden name was Caruso and I can't imagine two other people out there with the same names. I don't know if they shortened the name from Azzarello to Arello but my grandfather Samuel went by Arello as did my dad and the rest of us. It is often said names were written wrong so it could be.
Salvatore and Catarina were in Remy, Louisiana when my granfather Samuel was born. The other children were Louis, Nicholas and Delia (F). They somehow settled in Kansas City, Missouri. Salvatore died in KCMO I believe in 1936.
If you have information to share, I would very much appreciate it.
