Announcement of Passing
Clare E. "Liz" Carabine, 43, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on July 17, 2003. Liz was born to Lester and Marion Drennen on August 14, 1959 in Parkersburg, WV. She was a loving wife, mother, and sister. She is survived by husband John, son Brad of Parkersburg and service dog Buddy. Liz was a very active advocate in the disability community. She was a peer mentor at ABIL, involved in the passage of Transit 2000 and served as a Commissioner on the Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues. Liz was also very active with service dog and guide dog issues. Despite declining health. Liz was driven to make her mark in this world, she will be deeply missed by those whose life she touched.
Liz was newly elected to our GDUA board this May 2003. We have lost a great contributing member. The board has asked Susan Brickner to fill Liz's board position in the interim until the election next May 2004. Susan has graciously accepted and will be the new editor for our Wagon' Tails newsletter in the future. With each ending comes a new beginning. Welcome Susan, we appreciate you and your willingness to serve.
McDonald-Carabine
Together with their parents, Bradley James Carabine and Jennifer LeAnn McDonald announce their engagement.
The bride-to-be is the daughter of Joanne Fletcher of Parkersburg and Denny Kern of Cape Coral, Fla. She is the granddaughter of Al and Geraldine Sauers of Vienna and Catherine and the late Herbert H. McDonald of West Palm Beach, Fla. She is a 2003 graduate of Warren Local High School. She is employed as a security officer at a local hospital.
The prospective groom is the son of Terry and Denise Mills of Parkersburg and John and the late Liz Carabine of Glendale, Ariz. He is the grandson of Ken and Marty Mills of Washington, W.Va., and Jack and Lois Carabine of Boardman, Ohio. He is a 2000 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He is a fireman for the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department and is employed as an EMT at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
The wedding is planned for June 20, 2009, at the Lubeck United Methodist Church in Lubeck.

City Ordinance
Re-named for Liz Carabine
On October 8, 2003 the Phoenix City Council officially re-named Ordinance G-4509 to the Liz Carabine Ordinance. This is the ordinance that increases the accessible multi-housing standard from 2% to 6% within 1/4 mile of a Light Rail station. Liz, a strong advocate for accessible housing, as well as numerous other causes, was instrumental in passage of the ordinance. John Carabine, Liz’s husband was in attendance to witness the honor.
