Obit for Samuel Carter
Funeral services were conducted in Salt Lake City, Utah, Monday for Samuel J. Carter, former resident and member of a prominent Tempe, Ariz. Family. Mr. Carter, retired president of Tracy-Collins Bank and Trust Co, died in a Salt Lake hospital. He was 66 years old.
He moved from Illinois with his parents while a child and made Tempe his home from 1915 to 1933. For health reasons Mr. Carter retired as president of Tracy Collins in 1969. Prior to joining the company he practiced law for 20 years in the Salt Lake area.
He had been very active in civic affairs in the Utah capitol. Mr. Carter was a former member of the Roland Hall Board of Trustees, a girls school; was a board member of the YMCA; and was a Shriner and Mason.
At the time of his death he was a board member of the Corporation of the Episcopal Church of Utah. He was a graduate of the University of Arizona and the Harvard University Law School.
He was born in Vienna, Ill., January 19, 1904, the son of Sam J. and Viola Ann Hight Carter.
Surviving are his wife Dorothy, whom he married in New York City in 1928; one son and one daughter, James A., Seattle, Wash. And Anne, Salt lake City; two grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Marcy C. Moeur, and a niece Mrs. Thomas J. (Penny) Hughes also survive.
