Silas, I have a copy of Herring's obit and it doesn't state that he was ever in the war. Also, he is buried in Evergreen cemetery inTucson next to his wife and one other relative whom I am not sure who it is at this moment. His daughter Sarah, (Mrs. Thomas Sorin) is buried in Globe. She died in 1914. Also, son, Howard Herring, died in Tombstone in 1891 of an accident overdose while having a tooth worked on. I have obits for all of them. I'm not sure what happened to any of his other children.

Troy Kelley
