Re: Francisco Rubio
I was just reading some of the postings on this website & came across this message.
I am researching my family roots & one line has reached a block wall. That is the Rubio line.
This story can't be verified except by family stories & memories (which are a little fuzzy due to the age of family members)
During the retreat of the French soldiers from Mexico there was a young girl (maybe 16)
watching the soldiers by the fence of her home. A French soldier went by, liked her,
came back & took her away. Approx. a year later the girl came home to her family & brought a baby. She left the baby & went away. This baby was my Great Grandfather Francisco Rubio (born approximately 1871). The girls parents were Jose Maria Rubio and Jesus Ruiz & they brought up Francisco. This was one of the hush, hush stories that weren't discussed.
(This information is from my Grandfathers birth certificate) Francisco (approx 27) eventually married a girl by the name of Maria Alva (approx 21). Maria's parents were J. Merced Alva and Nieves Jimenez. Both sets of grandparents were alive in August, 1899 when my grandfather, Miguel was born at the Hacienda de El Paso in the Juristiction of Guadelajara, Jalisco, MX. The other children were, Tony, Gustavo, Unknown son, Everado, Jesusita, Carmen, Ralph,& Annie.
During the time of Poncho Villa, the Rubio's owned or ran a small store (maybe in Guadelajara), Villa came to town ransacked the store & killed one of the brothers (name unknown) The family ran & hid from Villa. It is said Miguel came to the US as a young man & then went back and brought the family over through Arizona and on to California.
The Rubio family is on the California census of 1920 with an immigration date of 1919.
Francisco & Miguel owned a home in LA & in the 30's there was some type of program (because of the high unemployment)that you could sell your home in Los Angeles for land in Mexicali (Baja) They did this & Maria & Francisco moved to a ranch in Mexicali.
If this story is familiar to anyone, please let me know. Any information would be helpful.
Thank you in advance.
Yolanda
