Annette, I am related through Earl I's father's family. His great grandfather was the son of my great great grandfathers half brother...so the connection is quite distant but cousins nevertheless. I have spent the past 30 plus years researching my Peugh family. I have them to Spencer Peugh, born 1853, a bastard, probably the grandson of Henry Peugh, son of Lewis & Ann Peugh. Lewis Peugh was born in Wales. Henry was born in Richmond Co., VA. I believe his daughter, Elizabeth was the mother of Spencer Peugh born 1753. I am still trying to document this connection.
Spencer was raised and married in Loudoun Co., VA to Rebecca (possibly Owsley) and then to Mary Hopewell after Rebecca died. Samuel was Spencer's first born, David was the 4th born. David was my 3rd great grandfather. He married first Lydia Botts, sister of Elizabeth Botts who married Samuel Peugh. Samuel & David migrated from Loudoun Co., VA to Montgomery Co., KY where Lydia died leaving David with four children. Samuel moved on to Washington Co., IN, taking David's son, Spencer Botts Peugh with him to learn to be a blacksmith. David remarried to Sarah (Sally) Caseldine and she had one son, John C. Peugh who is my great great grandfather. David died when John C. was only about 3-4 years old. Sally went to Indiana with her young son. She remarried in Decatur Co., IN to Thomas Fortune and had two more daughters.
Meanwhile Spencer Botts Peugh grew up and married Jane A. Logan and their son David Botts Peugh, married Mary Emeline Barnett and their son John S. Peugh married Mary Luella Moody and their son was Earl David Peugh,I....
I would be happy to share all I have on the ancestry if you are interested. I was in touch several years ago with I believe the wife of Harold Peugh in Colorado. I also was in contact with a Marie Denton who looked up a lot of records there for me and put me in touch with Harold's wife. We corresponded a few timews before Marie sent word she had died.
