Hi Dinese: Were you looking for David in Flagstaff when you stumbled onto my post? You are way ahead of me since I don't know Rosey. How is she related? Are you a "Brotherton Hunter"? If not contact Bob Brotherton <>. There is an interesting bio. of John & Mary Brotherton Reed in "History of Butler Co." tells of the 1793 trip from PA to Crab Orchard, KY and subsequent move to Cincinnati then on to 3 miles below Middleton where they settled.
William Brotherton Reed[1776-1816]s/o John & Mary, m. Rebecca Looman in Butler Co. in 1810. At that time my ancestor, William Reed, was living in Fayette Co., OH. I believe a relationship exists between John Reed [1745-1799]& William Reed [1777-1829]based on the fact that a grandson of William Reed was named Edward Looman Reed (The name Looman is generally spelled Luman {Luman GenForum}. I have not been able to prove this relationship but continue to try. One peice of evidence is David Chalmers Reed[1848-1916] s/o John Reed [1794-1861] & Nancy Morrison. John was s/o of David Reed [1766-1812] & Ruth Carrick who was s/o John & Mary Brotherton Reed. John [1745-1799] was s/o Robert Reed and Elizabeth Gardner. If you have access to familytreemaker search for William Brotherton Reed and Ruby Reed will take you back to Armagh Twp. to Carlisle and Chambersburg., PA. There were many Reed in this part of PA. John Reed, Sr's. oldest son was Robert. On 17 Apr 1755 John deeded to Robert (who m. Elizabeth Gardner/Gardiner), 200 of 310 acres, "on which I now live". John Sr. also had a son, William, who was involved in the land transactions. John Sr.'s will was executed 28 May 1769 and probated after his death in 1778 - - according to Ruby. Fayette Co., PA on the Berkeley Co. GenForum is no doubt an error on my part for which I apologize.
There also may be a connection between John & Mary (Brotherton) Reed and John & Mary (Hutchinson) Reed, who moved from Berkeley Co., VA to Monongalia Co., VA with their neighbors the Vandervoort family about 1790 as a Chalmers shows up in that family. Further, David Chalmers Reed was in Labette Co., KS following the Civil War as was my g. grandfather, William Henry Reed [1837-1915]. I believe that fact to be more than mere coincidence. Joseph Reed, probably a relative of John, m. Jeanette Brotherton, a sister of cousin of Mary.
In 1858, William Reed m. Elizabeth Blayney in Ohio Co., WV. Jane Reed, probably William's sister, m. John Gaston in 1853. John's sister, Mary I. Gaston, m. John Brotherton in 1855. The Blayney-Gaston-Faris families were related and had connections to the Reed family of Washington Co., PA. David & Charity Faris are related to the Faris family of Ohio Co. and are also my ancestors I hope to find the links some day. Indeed, the John Reed family is most interesting. Joe
