Judy, I have looked in the only available directories for 1851 and 1891 and cannot find your Ayre relative listed. (Directories only give householders or those who chose to allow their details to be published) As a Vet I would have expected him to show up. Leicester Place, Waterloo Lane in Hull contained a 'tribe' of the Ayre family. There were so many that the family spilled over into nearby cottages. Two of the Ayre family at this address were partners in a Law firm. One was called William Ayre. They were the richest family of Ayre in Hull and the only ones who could afford to employ a groom like my Frederick Wilson.[Source Hull Archives Office] I have sent you details of my Ayre link by post, sorry there is not much detail but I am still trying to pin down my Miss Ayre and establish her identity. Do you know where in Hull your relative came from? As we both have Ayre relatives from Hull then there is indeed a good chance of them being related. I think my one would be some sort of Cousin or Aunt to your one. From the map they seem to have had extensive grounds, if the present Broughton Court School on the same site is any guide. Your letter is being kept in my AYRE DYNASTY file incase something else crops up. If you find something then don't hesitate to contact me. Nice, at last to find somebody with Ayre relatives in Hull. E-Mail address is a phoney but Geoforum wiull not accept a posting without one. Please use Snail Mail Address of 16 Gladstone Road, Broadstairs, Kent, United Kingdom, CT10 2HZ Iain Hobbs
