Hello Eloi,
To my knowledge there is no Ayotte Family Association. There was a woman in Quebec a number of years ago who was interested in starting one, however, I don't believe it ever got offthe ground.
In regards to our ancestor Thomas there is not as much information on his family in France as we would like. With the information Thomas provided during the early Quebec census of 1667 (he is not mentionned in the census of 1666, however one must bear in mind it was badly done) we know he was from the parish of St-Jean de Mortagne, in Perche, France, where he married. This is also where he left from to head to Canada, or New France in 1638.
However, he provided his place of birth as Soligni-la-Trappe, north of Mortagne. French scholars have determined that many Hayots/Haiots resided in various parishes in the Mortagne area, but there is no mention of who Thomas's parents are in the marriage registry, so we are unable to trace the family back any further. One document on the Ayottte family tells that the Parisian telephone book has many listings for Aiot, Hayot and Hayotte, but no Ayottes, which is a distinctly Canadian spelling of the name.
The mix of occupations for those Hayots found in the 17th
century in France range from merchant butcher, to cobbler, to plowman. Given how the Hayot family resided in several parishes in Mortagne, it was inferred that the family had lived in the area for several centuries.
I have the article I took the above information from, as well as another on the family if you are interested.
Kind Regards
