The name Ayotte was originally Hayot. The first Hayot arrived in Québec in New France in 1637. He camed from Mortagne-au-Perche in France. Very rapidly, the name was change from Hayot to Ayot or Ayotte. Thomas Hayot is supposed to be the ancestor of all the Ayotte in Canada and in United States.
Hayot is supposed a deformation of the french word haie which mean hedge. In french, we have the names Lahaye and Deshaie who have the same origin.
I am a french speaking person. My english is poor!
