I am researching my AYHNES. My great-great- grandfather Paul J AYHNES, (father Jules and mother Pauline) immigrated from France to California about 1850, he was born in or near Paris about 1842. He married Eugene Forgere (accents over the two E's in Forgere and the last E in Eugene). She was born to French parents in San Jose California in 1852. Most of their children were ruddy skinned with red hair and blue eyes. I suspect that AYHNES and AYNES are the same. It is pronouced the same.
