The « first » AYNE ( that I found) is Gaspard AYNEZ. He was born and died ( 1586) in LIERGUES, in the provine of BEAUJOLAIS. In old french, a lot of surname spelled with an « z », now spell with an « s ». The origin of this letter « z » is spanish. For many centuries, most people were illiterate. Phonetically in french, « z » and « s » are the same. In fact, this phonetic resemblance caused many mistakes in certificate. For example, in the 18th century, I found Claude AYNEZ. His surname was spelled with an « z » on birth certificate, « s » on wedding certificate and nothing on death certificate. Also, I am sure that « AYNEZ » became « AYNES » or « AYNE ». Also, the surname « AYNES » or « AYNE » was transformed to « AINES » or « AINE ». But the problem is that the root word « AINE » in french, refers to « first » ( the first born). In fact, during my research, I verified each time that I found « AINES » or « AINE », because many other families not related, have this surname. During your « independance war » about 1780, against the English, many french came to America with french general LAFAYETTE in order to help. So is it possible that « one » AYNES started an american branch ?? Below, my genealogic branch ( branch of GENAY, near LYON, in BEAUJOLAIS) Best regards
