I believe that Sarah Aynes was the daughter of James and Martha Aynes who appear on the l880 Census in Scott County Arkansas. At the time Sarah was 10 years old. My great Aunt, Sarah Rosie Aynes Holderbaum, told me that she was named after Sarah Aynes Whisenhunt. According to the census, James was born in Indiana in l817 and his wife was born in Indiana as well. (I am not sure the data is reliable as to date & place of birth. Other records suggest Martha was born in Illinois and Kansas) Their other children include an older brother Henry who is also on the same page of the census, Joshua J. Aynes who was born near Rolla, Mo. in l869, Francis M. ("Babe") Aynes, Tommy, James, Vine, Louisa (or Liza?), Martha, and Mary. James (the father of Sarah) had died by 1900, but Martha is still on the census for Scott County that year. Many of their children moved to Indian Territory (Oklahom). While most of them have descendants in Okla. today, Henry moved to Texas where his family is still located.

James may have been related to a John Aynes who moved from Kentucky to Indiana in the early l800s or to Gabriel Aynes, Sr. and Rueben Aynes who moved from Tennessee to Indiana sometime between l830 and 1840.

If you come across any information concerning James Aynes (b. 1817) or Martha, I would appreciate it if you shared it with me.
