Hi Dan:

Yes, my Aylward ancestors emigrated to Canada in either 1853 (according to the 1901 census) or 1860 (according to the 1911 census). Based on the 2 different dates, I suspect they moved to the US first in 1853, and then settled in Canada about 1860.

My ggg grandparents Richard Aylward and Mary Haberlin left Rossinan, Kilkenny County, and eventually settled in Stanstead, Quebec (a Canadian/US bordertown Southeast of Montreal). They are buried there. According to the Griffith Valuation, Richard may have left behind two brothers as there was a David and James listed living in Rossinan at the time of the rent census.

Richard and Mary's daughter Maragaret (my gg grandmother) raised her family in Montreal, Quebec (where she is buried) and their son David raised his family in Lincoln, Illinois, United States (where he is buried). David changed the spelling of his name to "Elwood", no doubt because that's how it is pronounced by Southern Kilkennian's (so I am told).

It's interesting that your ancestors settled in Quebec City. I've been told that Haberlin relatives settled in Quebec City as well, but your Bridgit is the first I've heard of the Aylward clan. We're not doubt related. The hard part now is to figure out how.
