Steve,
No you can't follow church records.
The County is divided into 11 Baronies, then further divided
into civil Parishes (not church parishes) which somethimes
overlap into more then one barony. Go to the Kikenny website
http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlkik/
at the top of the page they show maps,
you can find the barony map, and civil parish map

Go to a genealogy library, or store that has a indexed Griffiths of about 1850 for county Kilkenny, you can purchase them on CD,
Go to the Ida Barony index , they will list a further index
of each Civil Parish in the Barony.
Check each civil parish that shows both Aylwards and Haberlin, they will list the names of tenants of estates.
If you find a David Aylward, you may have hit a home run.
Check further to find the Catholic church for that area,
I may be able to help you there. then you may be able to order a film for that area from you local family History Center (Mormon Library)
