I am the son of Robert A. Aylward of Wenham, Massachusetts (1916-2002), who was the son of Carl Aylward of Wenham (d. circa 1924). My great, great grandfather, George Aylward. was born November 15, 1830, in Digby, Nova Scotia, which is in the Annapolis Valley. He emigrated to Salem sometime prior to 1857, after marrying Esther H. Hamilton, who had also been born in Digby. George was a locomotive engineer on the Eastern Railroad, the run between Boston and Portland, Maine.
