Where does the name Aylmer come from?

The governor of Canada, Matthew Aylmer, Baronet, came from England and stayed from late 1830 to 1835. My grandfather's middle name came from his grandfather Aylmer Gallup. My grandfather's name was Ray Aylmer Gallup b. Medina, Michigan.
