SIMON ELLSWORTH of Ohio/Iowa, 1811-1855
I've just recently begun to investigate my husband's Ellsworth family, and am very grateful today for having found the "Aylesworth" forum! I'm especially indebted to Owen Aylesworth for his work on the Aylesworth internet site and all the information there.
However, I do want to make sure I'm understanding what I've found there about my husband's particular side of the Ellsworth family. (His great-grandmother was Charlotte Melvina Ellsworth-Dennis, the daughter of Simon Ellsworth and Sarah Ann Comptice.)
Am I to understand then, that this branch of the Ellsworth's are NOT connected with the Aylesworths in America at all?Due to "Moses Ellsworth" coming over to Goshen, N.Y. from England with brothers David and Arthur. Is there no more information about where these particular Ellsworths originated in England, or dates regarding when they were born and when they arrived here? It's interesting to me that even some of these Ellsworths, sometimes spelled their names Aylesworth (or rather, allowed their names to be spelled this way).Is it possible that Moses Ellsworth's brother Arthur was THE Arthur Aylesworth, and perhaps they just spelled their names differently? (Just asking.)
If anyone has any further information about this family of Ellsworths, please contact me.I'd be very grateful.
