Dear Fellow Researchers: I need your help. I am searching for information that will clarify, prove, or disprove this IGI record listing. Joseph JOHNSON Sex: M Event(s): Birth: 3 Aug 1825 Reedyville, Edmonson, Kentucky Parents: Father: Eliphalet JOHNSON Mother: ??? I believe this "Joseph" to be my great grandfather because the "time and place factor" meets all search criteria perfectly and exclusively. It is obvious that this IGI record is in error as it refers to "Reedyville, Edmonson Co., KY", however I believe the DOB may be correct based on the age of my great grandfather "Joseph" as indicated in various census reports where he is listed with wife (Mary Ann Rebecca Suddeth) along with my grandmother ( Therissa "Tharrissie, Rissie" Johnson) and all her siblings. I also have a copy of the marriage bond for Joseph and Mary where he indicated that he was born in Butler Co., KY but lived in Edmonson Co., KY and that his parents were both born in the "state of Virginia". The 1825 Edmonson Co. Tax List indicates five Johnsons with consecutive ID no’s (meaning that they are all family members). In the list below, Isaac is listed as living near "Reedy Creek". Because family members had a tendency to live near each other whenever possible, it is reasonable (for investigative purposes only) to assume that Eliphalet (IGI above) and the other family members listed below also lived near or in close proximity to Reedy Creek. Reedy Creek is located in Edmonson Co., KY near the Butler Co. border and near Reedyville. Johnsons with consecutive ID no’s listed on the 1825 Edmonson Co., KY Tax List Name ID No. Johnson, Andrew 293 Johnson, Isaac 294 Reedy Creek Johnson, Eliphalet 295 Johnson, William B 296 Johnson, John 297 Because of the close proximity of Reedy Creek and Reedyville, it is possible that Joseph was born in Reedyville, Butler Co. although his father lived in Edmonson Co., meaning that the reference to Edmonson Co. may be in error, and should indicate "Reedyville, Butler Co., KY". It is also possible that the reference to "Reedyville" is in error and the IGI record should indicate "Reedy Creek, Edmonson Co., KY" for the birth place of my great grandfather "Joseph". I am working on the assumption that this "Eliphalet" (noted in the list above and below) is the father of Joseph, but I can find no proof what-so-ever, except that he is the only "Eliphalet" that I can find in the area at the time Joseph was born. As we know, Edmonson Co. was not formed until 1825, where-as in 1820, the area in which these Johnsons lived would have been Grayson Co. KY. With that in mind, I recently found Eliphalet listed in the 1820 Fed Census Index for Grayson Co. KY (page 141 – ID# KY35339400). Listed on this Fed Census Index, there is also some names that were listed on the 1825 Edmonson Co. Tax List – Andrew, Issac, John, and another John, but no William B. ??? Perhaps William B. was not of legal age at the time of the census, but became of age for the 1825 Tax List -- (Speculation). Johnsons in Grayson Co., 1820 Census JOHNSON, Eliphalet 200010-30010 * JOHNSON, Daniel 000010-00010 JOHNSON, Isaac 000100-10010 * JOHNSON, Joshua 210010-31010 JOHNSON, Arter 011110-00210 JOHNSON, John 200110-20101 * JOHNSON, Mary 130000-10010 JOHNSON, John 200112-20101 * JOHNSON, Daniel 301101-01001 JOHNSON, Andrew 210101-30010 * According to this report both Eliphalet and his wife were between the ages of 26 & 45, which means they would have been born between the years 1775 & 1794. They had five children – two boys and three girls – all under the age of ten, this means that the first child would have been born between the years 1810 & 1815. So – They must have married between the years 1809 (or before) & 1814. Possible Eliphalet (Life) Johnson born: abt 1789 in Saltville, Washington Co., VA s/o: Benjamin Johnson & Elizabeth Alysworth relatives: German Ellsworth If you can share ANY information concerning this family: (Eliphalet, wife, & children or the family of Benjamin Johnson & Elizabeth Aylsworth), please contact me.
