Here's all I have on the John Ayer you're interested in:

The "Genealogical History of the Clark and Worth Families" (p. 211) refers to him as John Ayer of Andover, son of John Ayer of Ipswich. He was born March 18, 1648 and died ca. 1683; probably married Mary (???). A son, Samuel died in Andover September 5, 1670.

Sorry, that's all I have on him. But, if you contact the Haverhill library, I believe they have extensive info. on the early Ayers and may be able to give you more about him.
