Ray, If you can lead me to a copy of Jediah's will which shows Joseph as the son of Jediah and Ann Fortis Aydelott you will vendicate the theory of the premier genealogist of our branch of Aydelott's one William Wright Aydelott (1912-1996). According to his extensive research based on the "History of the Aydelott Family in the United States" which starts with Benjamin Aydelott as the first known Aydelott to America and and continues on to john and Rhoda Sydelott who had Obed, Zadock/Shadrack, Zediah/Jediah,Thomas and John Aydelott.
"According to family legend Jediah and Ann came to Tennessee about 1808 and settled in that part of the newly formed County of Hickman opened for settlement north of Duck River."Since the County Court House was burned in 1864 and all records destroyed documentation is impossible from that source. Now we get to what has been a problems for years.Jediah is listed as a Hickman County Magistrate in 1817 in the History of Hickman County by Spence.Spence also states that "Samuel C. Aydelott and Abner F. Aydelott were sons of Joseph and Ann Aydelott. This could have been an error on the part of Spence but Governor Carrol of Tennessee granted unto Joseph and Ann Aydelott 161 acres of land located omn
Big Swan Creek in Hickman County, Tennessee dated March 10, 1822.
It was always Bill Aydelott's theory that this was theson of Jediah and Ann Aydelott. Also, this Joseph married Susannah Gilmer and that is another story of the Aydelotts of Hickman County. Thanks for the response and I really look forward to hearing from you how I can document the Will of Jedia.Best Wishes, Jim
